MS05 - Double Tourbillon
The double tourbillon with differential gearing is usually powered by a single barrel, with a transmission system using differential gearing to balance the two tourbillons and ensure timekeeping accuracy.
The differential gear train is a type of transmission system primarily found in watches equipped with two or more escapements, such as double balance or double tourbillon watches. Its essential function is to compensate for the differences between two different frequencies. The speeds of the two tourbillons will never be perfectly identical. The frequency difference between them is minute, sometimes only a tenth of a hertz, almost imperceptible, but it accumulates over time. The faster tourbillon transfers more energy to the transmission system.
The differential gear consists of bevel gears connecting two shafts. If the speeds of the two shafts are identical, the differential gear remains inactive; however, if they differ, it extracts energy from the faster side and redistributes it to the slower side. Throughout this process, the total amount of energy remains constant, but its distribution changes.
